Should You DIY or Hire a Professional for Your Flooring Project?

Hire Flooring Professional, or DIY - 1

Most major home renovations can be costly. That’s why some homeowners elect to do the work themselves instead of hiring trained contractors. While it’s true that that the do-it-yourself (DIY) method empowers people to learn new skills and save money, we respectfully encourage you to avoid this method when it comes time to install new floors in your home.

Footprints Floors Franchise Owners operate their faith-based businesses in dozens of territories across the United States. Many of them have been approached by customers who saw a beautiful floor installation on social media around the same time they were considering new flooring. Feeling inspired to take on the project themselves, they secured measurements, bought their desired flooring material (usually too little or not enough), watched a couple YouTube videos, and then got to work . . .  only to realize sooner rather than later that installing a floor requires a combination of skill, experience, and knowledge.

As tempted as you may be to make your floor installation a DIY project, this work should be entrusted to a team of professionals. Why? Well, installing floors encompasses a series of tasks — measuring, removing, stapling, assembling, cutting, and adhering among them — and if you’re neither precise nor experienced, you risk creating or running into numerous obstacles, which can be both frustrating and expensive. Contractors who install floors for a living know what they’re doing, not to mention what they need to do if an unforeseen issue arises. Plus, they carry with them all the tools necessary for the job.

If you’re tempted to DIY your floor installation on account of not having enough money to fund the project, please remember that in addition to our highly competitive pricing, we have also partnered with Synchrony to offer Flooring Installation Financing at select locations. If your local Footprints Floors franchise offers financing, you can visit that location to apply. If approved, your home renovation project can commence immediately, and you can pay off the costs over a designated period of time.

Our contractors at Footprints Floors are so good at what they do that they can recommend suppliers for your chosen flooring material; tell you exactly how much material to order; prep your flooring space; install the floor, clean up the entire work area; and, when they’re done, explain to you how to care for/clean your floor. Customers seem to truly value our contractors’ prowess, as well as how they go above and beyond to give them the best experience possible (moving furniture and relocating appliances, for example).

Hire Flooring Professional, or DIY - 2

Our professional flooring installers take pride in their work. Should you have any questions or concerns before, during, or after the floor installation process, they will gladly address them. Footprints Floors offers a satisfaction guarantee because your business is important to us, and we strive to earn our customers’ trust.

If you’re interested in learning how to install floors, we’re compelled to note that that’s exactly how our Founder, Bryan Park, entered the flooring industry upon serving his country in the United States Air Force. One evening, Bryan and his wife went out to dinner, and when they returned home, they discovered that their two puppies had shredded their carpeting. They hired a flooring company and when the installers arrived, Bryan watched them complete the job. Intrigued, Bryan expressed an interest in the trade and before he knew it, he went from being a customer to a contractor. When he began contemplating how to start a flooring company of his own, Bryan took the steps necessary to bring Footprints Floors to fruition.

These days, Bryan continues to lead our wood floor franchise with honesty, excellency, and integrity — morals instilled in Bryan during his tenure in the Air Force.

Installing floors is as much an art as it is a trade. It’s not just about securing the appropriate materials and using the right tools — it’s also about seeing the process through from start to finish. DIY-flooring-installations-gone-wrong result in a consistent source of jobs for Franchise Owners at Footprints Floors. When one of our employees meets someone who took the DIY route, and now has to take the DIA (do-it-again) route, we don’t judge or criticize; instead, we do whatever we can to figure out what we can do to help.

When a well-intentioned, cost-saving DIY renovation backfires, you can count on your local Footprints Floors Franchise Owner to provide you with a free estimate so we can get our professional installation team into your home to fix the floor as soon as possible.

We welcome potential customers to contact us for all their flooring needs, and we also invite individuals who may be interested in operating a Footprints Floors Christian Franchise to learn more about this opportunity at footprintsfranchise.com. This year, Footprints Floors was included in Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500, a list that recognizes the fastest-growing franchises within the United States and Canada.

Home Improvement Trends to Watch Out for This Summer — And Why This Is the Busiest Time of Year for Franchise Owners

Summer Home Improvement Trends - Footprints Floors Franchise - 1

Summertime is upon us, and our home services Franchise Owners are preparing for the busiest season of the year. At Footprints Floors, we look forward to helping customers with all their flooring installation needs. Every opportunity we have to install a beautiful floor is an opportunity to help our customers upgrade their space, and that’s a rewarding feeling indeed.

Being part of the flooring industry means that we’re also proudly part of the home improvement industry. Customers hire our experienced and friendly flooring contractors to install floors in their homes, and no matter the material (wood, tile, and laminate, just to name a few) they select, the finished floor serves the entire room well and often makes way for other home improvements to be made.

At Footprints Floors, we take pride in not only the stellar customer service experience we offer and the professional floor installations we provide, but also the knowledge/recommendations we are able to share. That’s why we make an effort to stay updated on the latest home improvement trends — especially flooring-related ones.

Throughout our experience in the flooring industry, we’ve noticed that even though many people enjoy the look and feel of carpeting, hard surface materials continue to be consistent “trendsetters.” This seems to be on account of how easy wood, tile, laminate, and other hard surface materials are to care for and clean. Carpeting can feel nice on your feet, but it’s difficult to clean and tends to retain dust and other allergens. For these and other reasons, more and more homeowners lean toward hard surface materials.

In regards to specific flooring materials, there are always new options from which to choose. Homeowners are increasingly interested in going the environmentally friendly route by purchasing sustainable materials, such as tiles made from recycled glass; hardwood flooring made from recycled wood; and cork tiles made from the bark of the cork oak tree.

Marble-look and concrete-look tiles also keep increasing in popularity due to how sophisticated and sleek these tiles appear — especially when installed in kitchens and bathrooms — and how durable and versatile they are known to be.

Summer Home Improvement Trends - Footprints Floors Franchise - 2

We’d be remiss not to mention decorative floor tiles, which are typically made of porcelain. Decorative floor tiles are ideal for those who desire to give their room lots of personality. What we like about these is how you can “mix and match” in order to achieve the design you like best (think chevron and argyle patterns).

No matter your style, we’re confident that you’ll find the designs and materials that best suit the room(s) you’re renovating. Keep in mind that our employees are always here — and more than happy — to help. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and expertise so you can feel more confident in your home renovation decisions.

Whether you are renovating a room or the entire house, we recommend commencing renovations in the summertime (if possible) for a few specific reasons. First, you can count on the weather to be sunny. This helps the crew stay on schedule. What’s more, if you’re getting your kitchen renovated, you can always plan ahead and make meals outside . . .  summer’s not only great for renovating, but also grilling!

Another reason why embarking on home renovations in the summertime is a good idea is because this is the time of year when people like to embark on vacations. If you can schedule your contractors to start — or, better yet, finish — the renovations while you’re away, you have the luxury of returning home and enjoying your new space. Having contractors work while you’re away is especially helpful if you have small children, who tend to shy away from loud noises and are not necessarily thrilled with visible disruptions to familiar spaces.

We all know what comes after summer: fall and winter — two seasons that tend to keep us indoors and encourage us to invite people over for holidays and other festivities (football games, anyone?). A most ideal scenario would involve all your home renovations having been completed in the summertime, which would give you the chance to settle back in, relax, and enjoy all the new amenities and features. An added bonus? You’ll be fully prepared to play host for upcoming parties and holidays. How exciting it will be for you to show off all the upgrades that have been completed.

Summertime is the busiest season for our Franchise Owners, but they’re ready and excited about all the inquires they’re bound to receive. If you’re interested in renovating your home this summer, the Franchise Owner nearest you would be happy to schedule a free in-home estimate.

Also worth noting: some people reach out to us to inquire how to start a flooring company and how they can join our faith-based, Christian franchise. If you’re inclined to learn more about the franchising business opportunities at Footprints Floors, we invite you to visit footprintsfranchise.com.

Meet New Owners — Lee Becker and Erica Garcia

Meet New Owners — Lee Becker and Erica Garcia

Meet New Franchise Owners — Lee Becker and Erica Garcia

Lee Becker and Erica Garcia - Footprints Floors Franchise - Stamford, Connecticut - 1

We are pleased to announce that Lee Becker and Erica Garcia are now operating a Footprints Floors, faith-based franchise in Stamford, Connecticut. Our newest Franchise Owners learned about Footprints Floors a little over a year ago and became interested in what a Footprints Floors franchise could offer them, including a flexible schedule, the opportunity to serve people, and a business framework designed to set them up for success.

Erica took some time to help us get to know more about her and her business partner, Lee. Both of them come from a sales and distribution background, and although their previous jobs allowed them to gain valuable experience, both recognized that they wanted more out of their careers. Erica states that she didn’t enjoy “being stuck at a sales capacity and not being able to hit full potential due to changes in our portfolio.” What she wanted instead was “to see my hard work paid forward into something I can take full ownership of.”

When Erica’s career mentor mentioned Footprints Floors, Lee reached out to us because her mentor had “expressed nothing but great opportunities regarding this company and their team.” Upon receiving her initial inquiry, we were humbled to hear that her mentor spoke so highly of Footprints Floors and that Erica and her business partner were interested in learning more about all the benefits of owning a Footprints Floors Christian Franchise, including the ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance. What are other benefits to owning a Footprints Floors franchise? Franchise Owners have no inventory to track, no payroll staff to oversee, and no showrooms to operate because we eliminate as much overhead expense as possible. By doing so, we can pass along significant savings to our customers.

The support within their systems and day to day business tasks allows a freedom to focus on sales and closing deals

Like other people interested in joining the Footprints Floors family as Faith-Based Franchise Owners, Lee and Erica spent a few weeks learning about our business — what we do, how we do it, and how we’re changing the flooring industry for the better. They met with Footprints Floors Founder Bryan Park and our executive support team so we could get to know them better, too. Erica mentions that “they were all informative” — taking the time to answer questions, discuss the installation process, and more. Lee and Erica enjoyed traveling to a job estimate, describing that as “the best part of the day.” Erica added that she considers our Founder “honest and humble” and appreciates how Bryan is “there to support all his franchisees and see them succeed.”

Now that Lee and Erica are Franchise Owners, they are on a mission to help their customers understand all their flooring options and to schedule a professional installation with our floor installers. It’s a fulfilling mission because at Footprints Floors, we take pride in giving homeowners the beautiful flooring they want at prices they can afford.

Lee and Erica not only decided to make the financial investment required to open a Footprints Floors franchise, but also the personal investment needed to make their franchise a success. It’s clear that they are both enthusiastic about Footprints Floors and dedicated to ensuring that all customers will have a top-notch customer service experience. Erica says, “My passion is to help people and build relationships from the ground up. My comfort is not only providing features or products to clients in need, but also offering them a seamless and informative transaction. I enjoy having freedom to make my own business decisions while also capturing the benefits and life lessons that are learned along the way.”

Like other Footprints Floors Franchise Owners, Lee and Erica have access to our marketing and technology departments. This means that they get to take advantage of our call center, which handles lead generation, appointment scheduling, and customer service queries. “The support within their systems and day to day business tasks allows a freedom to focus on sales and closing deals,” Erica says.

Since opening their franchise in Stamford, Erica has been busy “working with my business partner to grow the territory, learning how to run a business, and working with people to accomplish their needs.” She appreciates the support they’ve received from other Franchise Owners; it speaks to how all Footprints Floors Franchise Owners operate with common goals and good intentions.

She and Lee believe their home improvement franchise has “unlimited potential” and are excited to see where theirs takes them. That said, we hope Erica’s career coach is proud, and we wish Lee and Erica all the best. We’re confident that their home flooring franchise will put them on a fulfilling career path, and we’ll be on that path ourselves, cheering them on and supporting them every step of the way.

Footprints Floors began Christian Franchising operations in 2018. We are proud to have more than 80 faith-based franchise owners in over 170 franchise territories in the United States. If you are interested in learning how to start a flooring company and want to discuss franchising opportunities within your territory, we invite you to get in touch with us.
