Flooring Isn’t a Real ‘Sexy’ Business. Why Flooring?

First of all, if you think a shiny new hardwood floor isn’t sexy, you’re looking at the wrong floors. Second, the industry is HUGE and it’s booming:

58% annual increase in project leads for home professionals in June 2020*

About 80% of the nation’s 137 million homes are over 20 years old

76% of people completed at least one home improvement project in 2020*

Home improvement spending increased almost 2x the rate of the rest of the retail sector

40% of the nation’s 137 million homes are over 50 years old

Franchise Owners don’t install any flooring themselves — what else does Footprints Floors do to help ease the headaches of business ownership?

Really it’s a win-win: We want you to focus on growing your business, not get caught up in the stressful day-to-day tasks that can consume independent small business owners.
Our support system is THE BEST in the business:

WE help get you new customers

WE handle your marketing

WE answer all your phone calls

WE provide all the training and support you need

“For me the key about being a part of Footprints is the support we get that Bryan’s been able to assemble from the back office to the people that answer the phones, it’s such a good thing for me to be able to look at my schedule, and that someone is helping me create that.”

Wondering how a 15-year flooring industry veteran came up with a business model that’s been selling territories out across the country?

Founder and CEO Bryan Park started out sanding floors, moved on to sales, moved up to general manager, and eventually was out on his own, launching Footprints Floors in 2008. He set out to disrupt an industry that he felt was underperforming and under-serving the customer.

Bryan didn’t want to invest a huge amount of money. The model was set up so that someone interested in owning a franchise could start out with as little as $75,000. He knew to be sustainable, the business model had to be lean. This meant no showroom, no employees, no HR costs and no inventory. This is how he was able to keep overhead low and offer an affordable initial investment.

He had a big family with big dreams of a big home. He needed serious income to do this. With the model, Footprints Floors saw average gross sales of $808,547* in 2019, with average net PROFITS of $217,394!**

Watch the video to hear Bryan’s story in his own words and find out why he developed this franchise model.

KATE GRUDEMAN

Kate was a high school teacher with a very set schedule before becoming a Footprints Floors Owner.

Now that I am an Owner of Footprints Floors, one of the things that I love most is that I get to work with my husband, more time with the family, and being able to own a business and take ownership and pride behind that.

MARK DUSKUS

Mark owned a flooring business in Colorado Springs for roughly 13 years before becoming a Footprints Floor Owner.

I’ve been able to make more money than I ever did in any of the previous years being an individual flooring business owner for 13 years. When you’re using subcontractors, looking at your job costs and profits is a lot more clear-cut.

DAN SATCHEL

Dan worked for a Fortune 200 company and was a long-time financial advisor before getting involved with Footprints Floors. He needed a way to get back to doing something for himself and fueling his inherent entrepreneurial spirit.

We’re getting lots of leads from lots of different sources. I get a lot of referrals, a lot of callbacks, and a lot of repeat customers when they move.

AARON BENEDICT

Before Footprints, Aaron worked in Telecommunications, Sales and Marketing and sought out another opportunity to be highly successful on his own.

There’s so much more fulfillment in what I do now because I am in complete control of my day, my income, and in complete control of running my own business.

What backgrounds/skills are you looking for in a new Footprints Floors Franchise Owner?
We’re looking for people with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, excellent management skills and a unique ability to problem solve and multi-task. Our top performing Franchise Owners had no prior experience and most came from white-collar backgrounds!
What kind of support is provided?

We offer our Franchise Owners the following types of support:

  • Marketing (which is unparalleled in the industry!)
  • Corporate Call Center
  • Ongoing operational support
  • Accounting and financial coaching
  • Subcontractor hiring support
  • Sales and retention
What does Footprints Floors’ Corporate Team manage?

We manage the following:

  • We create and manage ten specific online construction portals, such as Home Advisor, Thumbtack, and Angie’s List, that have been tested by our corporate territories
  • Google AdWords is turned on and managed by our Corporate Team
  • ALL social media platforms, including Facebook, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Territory-Specific Websites
  • Lead Generation
Am I responsible for finding new business?
One of the great things about our support model is that you’ll never be solely responsible for generating new leads! But of course our most successful Owners regularly put time into local marketing and finding new prospects as any business Owner would.
What is Footprints Floors Call Center?
We’ve perfected the art of lead generation, meaning Owners have customers the very first day they launch their business. Not only that, but they also have the added benefit of our corporate call center. Franchise Owners send the corporate team their availability schedule, and the call center will only schedule appointments during those times.
What if I don’t have experience in the home improvement industry?
That’s okay – we aren’t training you on how to restore floors. Instead, we’re teaching you how to run and lead your own flooring franchise! Our business model utilizes subcontractors who will complete the jobs that have been assigned to you. Where you have zero experience, these guys have YEARS of it and have done thousands of jobs. There’s nothing to worry about!
Subcontractors? Sounds complicated.
We will train you on best practices for hiring and handling a subcontracted crew. Footprints Floors has a stellar reputation amongst customers and subcontractors. We are known for being easy to work with, paying well, and paying on time. Building a strong relationship with a subcontracted crew will prove to be beneficial for all parties involved.
What does a typical week look like?
On Monday and Tuesday, you’re taking estimates. Once a price is agreed upon with the customer, you collect 50 percent of the fee up front, which will cover all construction costs.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the subcontractors will complete the jobs that were agreed upon.
On Friday, with the jobs complete, it’s time to collect the remaining customer payments and pay your subcontractor crews for another week of great work.
Saturday and Sunday – Nothing. You get the weekend!
Are there ongoing fees for Franchise Owners?
Yes, Franchise Owners in the Footprints Floors system pay a monthly royalty equal to 6% of gross sales. The fee entitles you to continued use of the Footprints Floors name and trademarks, access to our operating systems, new product development, ongoing training, and support, and other benefits that come along with being a Franchise Owner in the Footprints Floors organization.
How long will it take to get my new business open?
We are proud of our highly systematized training and onboarding program. As a result, we can get our Franchise Owners up and running in just 4-6 weeks, with estimates coming in the first Monday after training ends and checks being collected at the end of that week. Having an entire, fully formed business up and running in such a short time is virtually unheard of in our industry, but we make it happen!
How many employees will I need to run my business?
To begin, Owners will only need 2-3 subcontractors ready to perform jobs. An Owner will be able to run the business without any office staff until a couple of years into the business when they will want to hire a Production Manager to assist with field management. Then, as the business grows, Owners will add more subcontractors and Production Managers as necessary.
Why would customers choose Footprints Floors if we don't sell the product?
Footprints Floors is positioned perfectly between a big box store and a mom-and-pop retailer. The big-box stores make their money selling products and outsource the labor, causing prices to become much higher. Mom-and-pop retailers are usually extremely busy selling and installing products, and can’t provide the professionalism customers expect. Footprints Floors fills the gap by providing installation that typically costs 20% less than a big box store, while maintaining a level of professionalism that a mom-and-pop could never offer. This model is why we are seeing so much success!
Do I need a storefront?
No, Footprints Floors is a home-based model with no need for expensive real estate or leases.
Can I start with multiple territories?
Absolutely! For individuals with the right skill sets, we offer a discounted Franchise Fee when purchasing multiple territories right off the bat.
Who do I target as a customer?
While Owners can work with both residential and commercial customers, the bread-and-butter of our business is typically residential. We typically work with middle to upper-middle-class families looking to restore or redo their current flooring.
What will my top two expenses be?
The top two expenses are typically labor (paying the crews) and marketing to obtain new customers.
Can I keep my current job and run Footprints Floors on the side?
While we do allow for semi-absentee ownership, you will need to know who your General Manager will be before starting the education process. This needs to be someone you have worked with in the past. This person will become the face of your business and you need to make sure it is someone that you completely trust.
